Weeding & Pruning
Meets: Wednesdays 4-5pm Eastern time, January 13-March 3
Cost: $300
By application only
Weeding & Pruning groups are based on the Mastermind model in which individual writers and songwriters come together to support each other generously and copiously, personally and artistically. Towards that end, participants read each other's work, make judicious and loving suggestions, cheer each other's progress and be antennae for each other's future successes. Any writer may at any time say, "First draft feedback only," which will be code for "please say only nice things." If you want to check the group's opinion about how something is working, you can say, "weeding and pruning!" Nerissa begins each session with a short lecture on a topic (POV, dialogue, description, as well as publishing, working with collaborators including agents and editors, Internet resources, etc.) followed by a quick check in. At the session's end, Nerissa gives a prompt for the next week. Up to four writers will be in the hot seat each week.
How to Be an Adult
Coming Sept. 2010!
Mama Rocks (with Katryna Nields)
More music. More joy. Less stress.
Do you love your kids, but sometimes don't know what the heck to do with them? Do you want to get to know other like-minded moms to get great ideas, hear stories that will help you to not feel like a delinquent mother? Do you miss the side of you that was full of creativity, music, grown-up conversation?
We did too.
Join Nerissa and Katryna Nields for a Mastermind Teleclass/Support group for musical moms (and moms who want to be musical.) We will work together for a period of three months, meeting once a week for an hour on a conference call. Together we will be supporting each other, giving each other creative suggestions and of course, learning new and old songs. Each week, we will start with a line from a pop song, folk song, spiritual, show tune--something from our generation to get us going. We will take turns sharing, coaching and being coached, and we will end with a song to share with our children for the week. There will be an online forum for getting to know each other outside of the phone call. Can't make the call every week? There will be an mp3 recording of each class so you never have to sweat it if your babysitter gets the flu.
